Ryerson University commends Ontario government on budget

    TORONTO, March 26 /CNW/ - Ryerson University commends the Ontario
government for its support of post-secondary education, research and students
announced in yesterday's budget.
    The budget includes investments in the "knowledge infrastructure" of the
province through $200 million for maintenance and renewal of university
facilities and $250 million over five years for research infrastructure, as
well as programs to enhance student access to universities.
    "We welcome the province's funding of facilities and research
infrastructure, and its support for greater accessibility to higher education
for students," said Sheldon Levy, President, Ryerson University. "The
commitment to expanded financial aid for students through the Textbook and
Technology Grant and other programs is particularly important, at a time when
so many students are seeking the opportunity to study at Ontario
    Added Levy: "We look forward to continuing to work with the province, the
Council of Ontario Universities and colleagues at other universities to
address issues of long-term operating support and other challenges facing the
post-secondary sector."
