WOODBRIDGE, ON, Feb. 14 /CNW/ - RuggedCom Inc. ("RuggedCom") (TSX:RCM), a
leading provider of rugged communications networking solutions designed for
mission-critical applications in harsh environments, today announced that so
far this quarter it has received purchase orders totalling approximately
$1.0 million dollars from naval defense contractors for communications
networking equipment to be used to overhaul legacy ship-board communications.
"Our customers are large defense contractors responsible for providing
ship-board communication networks for use in navy vessels", explains
Marzio Pozzuoli, President and CEO of RuggedCom. "These applications require
rugged communications networking devices capable of operating under severe
vibration and shock conditions as well as wide temperature ranges.
Historically, a defense contractor might either create custom solutions or try
and "harden" existing equipment in order to meet military standard
specifications. We are able to provide commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS)
products to meet these stringent requirements, thus providing a significant
cost savings without sacrificing reliability."
The performance of RuggedCom products was confirmed through an extensive
testing process that included various environmental and reliability tests to
ensure their suitability as part of the overall control system. In one
particular test, RuggedCom products were subjected to severe shock and
vibration stresses produced by a 3,000 pound steel hammer used to simulate a
direct hit on a vessel's hull.
All RuggedCom products are RuggedRated(TM) for harsh environments.
RuggedRated(TM) products meet or exceed a wide range of industry standards;
provide a high level of immunity to electromagnetic interference and heavy
electrical surges; feature a wide operating temperature range of -40 degrees C
to +85 degrees C (no fans); can be powered from a variety of sources (12VDC,
24VDC, 48VDC, 88-300VDC/35-264VAC); and have high MTBFs and reliability
characteristics. In addition, several RuggedCom products have been tested to
military standard (MIL-STD) specifications including MIL-STD 901D (Shock),
MIL-STD 167-1 (Vibration), MIL-STD 461E (EMI), and MIL-STD 810 (Temperature
and Humidity). All of these features allow RuggedCom products to be placed in
almost any location for great installation flexibility.
