TORONTO, Sept. 20 /CNW/ - Having performed as part of Bravo!'s Gemini
Award-winning Live at the Rehearsal Hall concert series in 2001, Rufus
Wainwright, acclaimed baroque pop singer-songwriter, returns to perform
selections from his fifth album, Release the Stars. Rufus Wainwright: Live at
the Rehearsal Hall premieres October 2 at 10pm ET/7pm PT on Bravo!.
Bejeweled in a collection of broaches, Wainwright and his band glitter
like the disco balls adorning the set as they perform Release the Stars, Do I
Disappoint You and Going to a Town from his latest album. Exuding the cool of
a modern day dandy, Wainwright revels in his diva tendencies with a wink and a
nod to the audience as he performs his current single, Rules and Regulations,
which he refers to as "another of my greatest possible hits."
Behind-the-scenes interviews with Wainwright accent the performance footage
and Canadian songstress Sarah Slean joins Wainwright in a dramatic performance
of Between My Legs to end the show.
The son of esteemed folk music luminaries Loudon Wainwright III and Kate
McGarrigle, Wainwright first stepped out from his parents' shadow in 1998 with
his critically-acclaimed self-titled album. The debut album would land on
numerous Top 10 Album Of The Year lists, inspire Rolling Stone Magazine to
name Wainwright Best New Artist, and garner a 1999 Juno Award for Best
Alternative Album. Wainwright has since released the critically acclaimed
albums Poses, Want One, Want Two and in May 2007, Release the Stars, an
ambitious album highlighting Wainwright's brilliant, idiosyncratic gifts as a
songwriter and vocalist.
