RTNDA Canada Names "Best Television News Information Program Award" after Trina McQueen

    TORONTO, Oct. 25 /CNW/ - RTNDA Canada - The Association of Electronic
Journalists is pleased to announce the new RTNDA Canada Award for Best
Television News Information Program will be named after Trina McQueen.
    To call Trina McQueen a trailblazer is an understatement. She was the
first female reporter for CFTO News in Toronto, co-host of W5, the first
female on-air reporter for The National, the first woman named executive
producer of The National, at just 33. In 1992, McQueen became vice president
of English Television News and Current Affairs at CBC and CBC Newsworld,
followed by President and Chief Operating Officer of CTV Inc. She is currently
on the Board of Directors of CBC/ Radio Canada. RTNDA Canada recognizes this
breadth of achievement and experience and is pleased to announce the award for
best television news information program will be named after Trina McQueen.
    "Trina McQueen is held in such high regard," says RTNDA Canada President
Bob McLaughlin. "Throughout her career she has helped promote excellence in
journalism, raising the bar for broadcasters everywhere and we are delighted
to name this award in her honour," says McLaughlin.
    The first Trina McQueen Award will be handed out at the RTNDA National
Awards Ceremony in Ottawa next June.
