WINNIPEG, MB, Aug. 24 /CNW Telbec/ - From August 24 to September 3,
visitors to the Royal Canadian Mint's Winnipeg facility will have a chance to
see the world's first 100-kg, 99.999 % pure gold bullion coin with a
$1 million face value. The biggest gold bullion coin in the world, and a
marvel of Canadian engineering and craftsmanship, is on display for this very
limited time to all visitors of the Royal Canadian Mint.
Established in 1976, the Winnipeg Mint is a 14,864 square-metre
state-of-the-art, high-tech, high-volume coin manufacturing facility. Today,
it houses over forty separate presses which, together, can produce up to 15
million coins a day. Last year alone, over two billion Canadian circulation
coins were produced, which does not include those that were produced for
foreign customers. In fact, over the last 30 years, the Mint has manufactured
coins for over 60 countries.
The public can visit the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg to discover the
wonders of high-speed, high-volume coin production. Summer tours are available
until September 3rd, from Monday to Sunday, 9:00 am to 5:00 p.m. As of
September 4th, tours will be offered from Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to
