Mint excited at new prospects developing in the UAE, India and Asia after
rolling into Abu Dhabi and Dubai with its world-record gold bullion coin
OTTAWA, Feb. 21 /CNW Telbec/ - The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) is delighted
at the outcome of its participation in National Day celebrations hosted by the
Canadian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Canadian Business
Councils of Abu Dhabi and Dubai last week. The RCM's 100-kg, 99999 pure gold
bullion coin with a $1 million face value, recently certified by Guinness
World Records as the world's largest gold bullion coin, drew large crowds at
evening receptions attended by royalty, prominent business leaders and
"The Royal Canadian Mint's 100-kg, 99999 pure gold bullion coin
represents the greatest achievement of the international bullion industry and
it sends a clear message that Canada's Mint produces the best, not only in
bullion, but in world-class collector and circulation coins as well," said Ian
E. Bennett, RCM President and CEO. "We are very grateful to the Canadian
Embassy in the UAE for providing an excellent platform for showcasing our many
talents in a very strategic market."
The RCM's 100-kg gold bullion coin helped promote the RCM's new line of
99999 pure one-ounce Gold Maple Leaf bullion coins, the world's purest gold
bullion coins, in a market which is ripe for premium gold and silver
investment products. As well, the attention gained by the RCM during its visit
offered a unique opportunity to market its patented multi-ply plating
technology in the region, which is rapidly gaining popularity as the
circulation coinage solution of choice for countries all over the world.
"In an age of high base metal costs, international need for a coinage
solution which saves money without compromising quality is more and more
compelling," added Mr. Bennett. "As we seek to grow internationally, we were
pleased to visit the UAE to promote our unique strength in this sector, as
well our bullion products, in a country which is an important gateway to the
Middle East, India and Asia."
The RCM has produced circulation coins of the highest quality for the UAE
since 1988. Most recently, it was retained to produce the UAE's 2007
circulation coins in 25 and 50 Fils and 1 Dirham denominations and is
presently minting multi-ply plated circulation coins for neighbouring Oman.
The growing importance of the RCM's patented multi-ply plated technology
translated into a record year in 2007 for its foreign circulation business
line. The Mint's Winnipeg, Manitoba facility set a new production volume
record, exceeding 1.2 billion multi-ply plated circulation coins struck for
countries from around the globe such as: Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Ghana,
Paraguay, Barbados and the Bahamas.
