EDMONTON, March 20 /CNW/ - Kerri Roe doesn't often buy lottery tickets,
but after seeing two other people win small prizes on SUPER SET FOR LIFE, she
decided to try the game for herself. The old cliché, "third time lucky",
really proved true for the Red Deer resident that day, as she uncovered a
windfall of $2,000 a week for 25 years or a single payment of $2 Million!
The 27-year-old office administrator, who is currently on maternity leave
after having her first child in February, bought the $10 SCRATCH 'N WIN ticket
from Express 24 Foodmart, located at 1-225 Davison Drive in Red Deer. "I went
to the store to buy some candy," she recalled, "and there was a gentleman in
front of me who had just won $10 on SUPER SET FOR LIFE. I had also just been
at my friend's house, and she had also won $10 on SUPER SET FOR LIFE, so I
bought one. I thought, 'What the heck; I might win my $10 back.'"
Kerri scratched her ticket while watching television with her husband on
Friday evening, and she uncovered three "Money Bag" symbols in the ticket's
Game 1 Play Area to win the game's Top Prize. "I didn't know what to think,"
she explained. "After I checked it, I handed the ticket to my husband to
check, and then I phoned my sister and told her I had won $2 Million."
"Within an hour, my family and my husband's family were at the house,"
Kerri continued, "but I think our parents were more interested in their new
baby granddaughter than in what I had won!"
Even while she claimed her prize this morning, the happy winner - who
chose the $2 Million lump-sum payment - was still adjusting to the reality of
her win. "Oh, my gosh, we won't have a mortgage!" she said when asked about
her plans for the windfall. "We haven't thought about it too much, so we'll
put it in the bank for a while, but I know that we'll help family," she added.
Kerri also mentioned that the win would allow her and her husband to ensure
their daughter's education would be taken care of.
Kerri's $2 Million windfall is the fifth lottery windfall of $1 Million
or more won by a Red Deer resident or residents, and the second in the last
four months. On the November 29th LOTTO 6/49 draw, a couple from the city - a
stucco contractor and a department store worker - won a $13,809,794 prize. As
the previous million-dollar-plus prizes won in Red Deer were also won on LOTTO
6/49, Kerri has the added distinction of being the city's first SCRATCH 'N WIN
