All-time record month for all-new third-generation 2009 Forester
MISSISSAUGA, ON, June 3 /CNW/ - Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) today announced
the best May in its history, with sales of its lineup of All-Wheel Drive
vehicles reaching 1,931 units, up 13.6 percent over last May. It was the sixth
consecutive month of sales growth for SCI.
It was also an all-time best month for Forester, with the launch of the
all-new, third-generation model driving sales to a record high 742 units -
113 percent more than were purchased in May of 2007. Impreza sales also
continued to be strong, with monthly retails of 773 units up 1.2 percent over
the same month last year.
"Timing for the launch of the 2009 Forester could not have been better,
as drivers who want the confidence of all-wheel drive abandoned larger, less
fuel efficient SUVs in the face of soaring gas prices.," said Katsuhiro
Yokoyama, chairman, president and CEO of SCI. "The new Forester combines the
most popular SUV attributes, such as a high seating point and interior
versatility, with passenger car comfort, handling and fuel efficiency. It's a
compelling combination, especially when you consider Forester's very
competitive price tag."
