BURLINGTON, ON, Feb. 2 /CNW/ - Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) is thrilled
(and possibly even a little frightened) to present Backyard Monsters in the
new Camilla and Peter Dalglish Atrium The exhibit opens to the public on
February 7, but we're opening the doors to the media on February 6 for a sneak
Backyard Monsters is an international exhibit that features several giant
animatronic bugs, an amazing array of exotic insects, mind-blowing interactive
displays and a chance to meet real live bugs, up close.
Cower beneath a towering tarantula - 11 feet tall! Dare yourself to stare
down a massive wasp. Take in the elegant beauty of a 19' wide monarch
butterfly. Watch two mammoth atlas beetles battle for supremacy. These bugs
are anatomically correct and so life-like that the exhibit is sanctioned by
the American Entomological Society.
All that excitement can make you hungry... so we'll have a buggy chef on
hand preparing chocolate covered ants and crispy mealworms. Yummy!
And to make the day even more exciting, we're bringing in a busload of
Sixth Graders from Strathcona Public School.
Giant bugs, buggy kids and a chance to deliberately swallow a bug. How
cool is that?
That tingling sensation you feel is your spidey senses telling you there
is a decent story to be had (and possibly your only chance this year to eat
The festivities start at 1 p.m., Friday February 6. (The exhibit opens to
the public on Saturday February 7, and runs to April 19)
