RBC Employees are 'Putting Communities First' June 18-24

    TORONTO, June 13 /CNW/ - RBC employees in the Greater Toronto Area will
help build stronger communities June 18-24 by joining forces to build a home
for Habitat for Humanity, walking five kilometres to raise funds for SickKids
Hospital, and volunteering at four Toronto area community after-school program
    "Putting Communities FIRST is a week-long celebration of RBC's commitment
to the communities in which our employees live and work," said Jennifer Tory,
RBC Regional President, Greater Toronto Region.
    The volunteer efforts of RBC branch and commercial banking employees,
combined with community donations by the RBC Foundation, will mean almost
$2.6 million will be contributed to community organizations in the GTA this
    Look for these and other Putting Communities FIRST activities throughout
the week:

    -   Monday, June 18 - RBC employees will volunteer at community after-
        school programs for children in Rexdale, Mississauga, Scarborough and
        east Toronto (Danforth), assisting with programs and refurbishing

    -   June 19 & 20 - RBC employees will volunteer at the Newmarket Habitat
        for Humanity ReStore, carrying out a spring cleaning and organizing
        the store's inventory

    -   Wednesday, June 20 - RBC employees will go to work building 10 town-
        homes in Etobicoke as part of the Habitat for Humanity Toronto's
        Lakeshore Village build

    -   Thursday, June 21 - Hundreds of RBC employees will walk five
        kilometres to raise money and support the Hospital for Sick Children
        (SickKids) in this year's 20th annual RBC SickKids Walkathon. A
        significant donation will be made to the hospital's Believe campaign

    -   Friday June 22 - All 144 RBC branches in the GTA will join branches
        across Canada to host a nation-wide First For You customer
        appreciation day. Employees will be hosting special in-branch
        activities and serving refreshments to thank clients for their

    -   Saturday, June 23 - More than a dozen of RBC's newest branches in the
        GTA will invite the public to celebrate their grand opening with free
        refreshments and activities for the whole family

better place to live. Putting Communities FIRST is a way we can show our
commitment to our clients, our neighbourhoods, and our employees," said Tory.
    Almost 5,000 RBC branch and commercial banking employees in the GTA will
each receive a $20 gift card to donate to the charity of their choice using
the on-line charity portal www.canadahelps.org
    "It's our way of saying thank you to our employees and help them
contribute to stronger neighbourhoods." Tory noted.
    RBC is proud to support hundreds of community organizations in the GTA.
In 2006, RBC invested more than $6.5 million to more than 182 community
projects in the GTA through charitable organizations.
