Considered one of top after-school programs in Canada
TORONTO, Oct. 18 /CNW/ - RBC today announced that the National Capital
Region YMCA-YWCA is one of 77 organizations from across Canada to receive a
prestigious RBC After-School Grant for the 2007/2008 school year. The National
Capital Region YMCA-YWCA received $23,000 to continue to enhance their program
and increase participation in the program.
This is the fourth consecutive year the National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA
received the RBC After School Grant. It has now received over $100,000 from
After-school programs across the country were chosen by advisory panels
of local citizens. Each of the community-based programs selected by the panels
receive between $10,000 and $40,000.
To be chosen for an RBC grant, after-school programs must offer
structured, supervised activities in an environment that provides what RBC has
termed "3 Ss": safety, social skills and self-esteem. The National Capital
Region YMCA-YWCA provides a wide range of activities which have benefited the
participants, improving their social skills, behaviours and attitudes.
"RBC's grants are considered a 'seal of approval' among Canada's
after-school program providers," said Deirdre Speers, Vice President, Children
and Community Services. "We are thrilled that these funds will help us
continue to deliver much-needed programs in our community."
