Rare Banco drawing results - Ten consecutive numbers are drawn, winners pocket $9.6 million

    MONTREAL, May 14 /CNW Telbec/ - A rare event - ten consecutive numbers
from 30 to 39 being drawn in the Banco lottery - brought happy results for
some 30 "Mise 10" ticket holders who together will pocket 9.6 million dollars
after last night's drawing.
The Banco lottery, celebrating its 20th anniversary this September 15,
lets clients select from 2 to 10 numbers between 1 and 70. Loto-Québec then
draws 20 winning numbers each day. In the 10/10 category, each dollar played
pays $200,000.
"Even if Banco rules allow Loto-Québec to limit the total amount of
prizes payable by category to $4 million, at its sole discretion, management
decided to honour the full amounts of winning wagers in this case, thus
incurring an additional payout of $5.6 million," explained Loto-Québec
President Alain Cousineau.
Sales for yesterday's Banco drawing, the 6677th since the lottery was
first held in 1989, totalled $307,582. In all, 4,098 winners won a total of
$11,413,321 - a payout rate of 3,711%. Players who chose to wager on ten
numbers are richer by $9,778,985 thanks to 1,206 winning plays - a payout rate
of 15,281%.
"Clearly, our customers like to play many consecutive numbers at Banco.
Even if the chance of winning in the 10/10 category is 1 in 2,147,181, many
Quebecers have a big grin on their face this morning," Mr. Cousineau added.
