Beauty Industry Pioneer Earns Top Honours at Gala Event in Toronto

    Accomplishments to be Recognized Further with National Special Citation on
    November 1

    OTTAWA, Oct. 23 /CNW/ -- Ottawa-based founder and CEO, Fusion Brands
Inc., Randi Shinder was named Ernst & Young Emerging Entrepreneur Of The Year
2007, Ontario region at a gala award banquet and ceremony. The national
judging panel will also honour Shinder -- one of only four to receive such
national recognition in 2007 -- with a special citation for Product and
Marketing Excellence at the Canada Entrepreneur Of The Year ceremony in
Toronto on November 1.
    Shinder's Ernst & Young honours place her in the company of a very elite
group of accomplished business leaders; she will be officially inducted into
the Entrepreneur Of The Year Institute on November 15. "It means a great deal
to be recognized among Canada's greatest heads of business," Shinder said.
"This award is also a testament to my incredible team at Fusion Brands Inc.,
the successes we've achieved and all that we plan to accomplish as we continue
to grow."
    Randi Shinder's beauty business has grown significantly since its
inception as a one-person operation in 2003. The company, today known as
Fusion Brands Inc., encompasses three distinct brands: FusionBeauty, CLEAN
Perfume, and Scentology, and boasts a team of 47.
    Every brand Randi Shinder develops meets with continued success. Without
any prior knowledge of the cosmetics industry, Shinder followed her intuition
and desire to enter the ever-growing but competitive marketplace with the
creation of CLEAN Perfume in 2003, which quickly rose to the number-one
selling independent scent. One year later Shinder entered into a partnership
with multi-platinum recording artist Jessica Simpson to create Dessert Beauty.
In addition, four months after launch the brand spawned two successful line
extensions, one for the mass drugstore market and an additional line called
"Sweet Kisses" for Wal-Mart stores.
    Shinder soon identified yet another untapped market: the cosmeceutical
sector, and in the spring of 2005 introduced yet another breakthrough brand,
FusionBeauty, whose premier product LipFusion sold nearly two million units in
its first nine months on the market. In the Spring of 2007 Shinder forged yet
another new category and in collaboration with renowned neuroscientist Dr.
Rachel Herz launched the Scentology functional fragrance line at Target
    Shinder approaches every brand and product developed first and foremost
as a consumer, and that tactic has proven incredibly successful. By
capitalizing on both her intuition and emerging trends, she has been able to
create products that resonate with the consumer and ultimately foster strong
customer loyalty and sales success. Distribution decisions are strategic --
never safe -- and Shinder constantly pushes the envelope to expand her reach
into new, untapped markets, continuously meeting with incredible response,
brand awareness, and retail sales.
    Though Shinder remains extremely involved in the all aspects of the
business, from development of formulations, to packaging and manufacturing, to
promotions, and beyond, the success of the business has been maintained with
