/R E P E A T/ - Mr. Bernard Roy - New Chairman of the Board of the Old Port of Montréal Corporation

    MONTREAL, April 17 /CNW Telbec/ - In their first official meeting this
morning, the new members of the Board of Directors of the Old Port of Montréal
Corporation unanimously elected Mr. Bernard Roy as Chairman of the Board.
    Mr. Roy is a well-known Montréal lawyer who specializes in civil,
commercial and administrative law. Currently Counsel at Ogilvy Renault, he has
acted as an arbitrator and litigator before courts of provincial and federal
jurisdiction and administrative tribunals. Mr. Roy has also served as lead
Counsel to many federal and provincial commissions of inquiry, including the
Gomery Commission. He was Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of Canada
from 1984 to 1988. Mr. Roy is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the
Bar of Quebec and sits on the boards of several public companies.
    Implementing the Old Port's development vision constitutes a major
challenge for Mr. Roy. It will be one of the new Board's top priorities. "The
development vision was initiated in 2003 at the request of the Government of
Canada and we intend to pursue this goal along with the major players in
Montréal's cultural, economic, recreational and tourism communities," Mr. Roy
said. "It is with great enthusiasm that I follow in Mr. Bernard Lamarre's
footsteps as Chairman of the Old Port of Montréal's Board of Directors. The
new Board members and I will contribute to the ongoing development of this
extraordinary heritage site linking Montréal and the St. Lawrence."
    The other new members of the Board, nominated for a three-year term, are
Ms. Hélène Desmarais, Mr. Patrick Kenniff, Ms. Tasha Kheiriddin and Mr. Claude
Thibault. They are all from Montréal.
    Here are biographical notes on the other four members of the Old Port of
Montréal's Board of Directors.

    Ms. Hélène Desmarais

    Ms. Hélène Desmarais is the Chief Executive Officer of Centre
d'entreprises et d'innovation de Montréal (CEIM), a position she has held
since she founded the organization in 1996. She holds a BBA in Finance from
HEC Montréal and became, in 2003, the first woman to serve as Chairperson and
CEO at HEC Montréal and Co-chairperson, CEO and founder of HEC Montréal's
International Advisory Board. Ms. Desmarais is a member of several Boards of
Directors. She heads the advisory board of the faculty of medicine of
Université de Montréal, is Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the
Montréal Symphony Orchestra (MSO) and Chairperson of the MSO Endowment Fund.
Ms. Desmarais is also First Vice-president of the Board of Directors of the
Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montréal.

    Mr. Patrick Kenniff

    Mr. Kenniff is a partner in the prestigious management consulting firm of
Kenniff & Racine, which specializes in executive recruitment. Mr. Kenniff
holds a degree in law from Université Laval, is a member of Quebec's Bar
Association and holds a Master of Laws from the London School of Economics and
Political Science. Mr. Kenniff also served as Quebec's Deputy Minister of
Municipal Affairs from 1979 to 1984 and was rector at Concordia University
from 1984 to 1994. Mr. Kenniff is a member of several Boards of Directors,
including those of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montréal and the
Montréal Exchange.

    Ms. Tasha Kheiriddin

    An author, lawyer and television personality, Ms. Kheiriddin is currently
a lecturer at McGill University, a columnist for Les Affaires magazine and,
until recently, served as Executive Vice-president of the Montréal Economic
Institute, a non-partisan, privately funded think-tank that promotes
free-market solutions to social problems. Ms. Kheiriddin currently serves as a
member of the Advisory Committee in Judicial Appointments to the Tax Court of
Canada and is a member of the Civitas Society and the University Club of

    Mr. Claude Thibault CA, CBV, MBA

    Mr. Thibault is Vice-president, Finance, and Chief Financial Officer of
NuEra International Inc., a holding company owning three manufacturing and
distribution businesses in the United States and Canada. Over the past ten
years, he has been the CFO of a number of public and private companies,
including most recently Mediagrif Interactive Technologies Inc., a TSX-listed
corporation, and PTT Ply Canada, a Shell joint venture. Mr. Thibault had
previously gained significant investment banking and corporate finance
experience while at Merrill Lynch Canada and KPMG. He is a chartered
accountant and a chartered business valuator. He holds an MBA from McGill
University and is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors.

    The Old Port of Montréal Corporation was created by the government of
Canada in 1981 with the mandate of developing and promoting the Old Port of
Montréal's territory. This territory, which represents an area of
47.3 hectares or 116.9 acres, lies along the St. Lawrence River, bordering Old
Montréal and the downtown core of one of North America's most interesting and
innovative cities. The Corporation' s mission is to implement sustainable
development for this recreational, cultural and tourist site, for the
enjoyment of all Montrealers and Canadians.
