Members of the payment card industry, including Visa Canada, today
released positive insight and observations from the industry trial of chip
technology being conducted in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.
Chip technology is a new generation of payment cards which contain
embedded microchips giving debit and credit cards the ability to securely
store and process transaction information, making an already safe payment
system even more secure. Visa Canada's migration to chip technology represents
an evolution of the electronic payments system and is designed to make an
already safe payments system even more secure.
Visa Chip cards are already being circulated across Canada and over the
next few years, more Canadians will start to see chip-enabled terminals in
stores and restaurants. While some Canadian financial institutions are already
issuing Visa Chip cards, others will transition the cards into circulation
through their normal renewal period.

The b-roll includes an overview by Shirley Matthew, Director of Chip
Platforms, Visa Canada, on how chip technology works and the benefits it
presents to consumers and retailers. It also includes cut-aways of a Visa Chip
transaction and an in store chip-enabled purchase.
