/R E P E A T -- Public appeal: Hydro-Québec is asking for cooperation from the public to reduce power consumption/

MONTREAL, Jan. 23 /CNW Telbec/ - Hydro-Québec is anticipating record power consumption due to the extremely cold weather forecast over the next few days. System demand in Québec is expected to reach approximately 38,000 MW, Monday morning, exceeding  the record peak of 37,230 MW, recorded for January 16, 2009.

Hydro-Québec is therefore appealing to the public to reduce power consumption during peak periods in order to give the utility greater operating margin.

Hydro-Québec is asking for reduced power usage during these peak hours:

  • Monday, January 24: from 6 to 9 a.m. and from 4 to 8 p.m.
  • Tuesday, January 25: from 6 to 9 a.m.

Here are the most effective ways to reduce consumption:

  • Reduce lighting to the bare minimum, especially outdoors
  • Limit use of hot water and take a short shower
  • Avoid using the dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer

Hydro-Québec has implemented the various means at its disposal to ensure continuity of service under extreme contingencies. The utility will also reduce heating and lighting in all its administrative buildings in Québec, and the lights on the logo at head office will be turned off.

Hydro-Québec sincerely thanks all customers for their cooperation and will keep them informed of any new developments.
