/R E P E A T -- Platform numbers changing at Union Station and Union Station GO Bus Terminal/

    TORONTO, Sept. 25, 2008 /CNW/ - Starting October 4, train and bus
platforms at Union Station are being renumbered. Renumbering the platforms is
the first part of the Union Station renewal project, which will revitalize key
areas of the station over the next several years, improving customer travel,
comfort, and navigation. Generally, trains and buses will depart from the same
platform locations that they do now, but the platforms will have new numbers.
The way Union Station currently identifies the platforms with numbers and
letters (i.e. 3A, 4B) is not widely used in North America. The new system
follows a more recognized style of numbering and uses numbers only (i.e.
platform 5, 6, 7, 8), which is easier to read and understand.
The directional and information signs at Union Station have also changed.
In August, changes were made to the design of signs in and around Union
Station, including the GO concourse and bus terminal. The new design is easier
to read and makes finding information about trains, buses, and accessible
routes simpler for travellers. The way signs are organized throughout the
station was also improved.
To ensure smooth travel through Union Station, passengers should check
their platform number on the electronic customer departure boards located
throughout Union Station and the GO Bus Terminal; listen to announcements; and
allow extra time to check the signs and become familiar with the new numbering
system. GO representatives will be on hand during the transition to assist
customers with any questions.
