/R E P E A T -- Invitation - Launch of Centraide Campaign 2008 - 15,000 people are expected to participate in Centraide's March of 1,000 Umbrellas through downtown Montreal/

    MONTREAL, Oct. 2 /CNW Telbec/ - The co-chairs of Centraide of Greater
Montreal's 2008 campaign, Richard B. Evans, Chief Executive of Rio Tinto
Alcan, and Jacques Lamarre, President and CEO of SNC-Lavalin Group, as well as
Michèle Thibodeau-DeGuire, President and Executive Director of Centraide of
Greater Montreal, cordially invite the press to Centraide's March of
1,000 Umbrellas, which will mark the launch of Campaign 2008.
    Over 15,000 people -- donors, volunteers, company employees, business
leaders, and representatives of the community-based agencies, the public
sector and the trade unions -- will march as one, holding up their umbrellas,
to demonstrate their solidarity with the 360 agencies and projects supported
by Centraide. Together, these community resources help over half a million of
our most vulnerable fellow citizens.
    The many arts and sports personalities participating in the march will
include the humorist Yvon Deschamps, singer-songwriter Judi Richards, actress
Danièle Lorain, spokesperson for La Maison Marguerite, arts columnist Francine
Grimaldi, spokesperson for the Regroupement des Magasins-Partage de l'île de
Montréal, actress Marie-Hélène Thibault, spokesperson for OMPAC, as well as
hockey greats Bob Gainey and Réjean Houle.

    Activities:  Centraide's March of 1,000 Umbrellas, followed by the
                 announcement of the goal of Centraide Campaign 2008
                 (last year's campaign raised $54 million)



    11:30 a.m.  Participants assemble on McGill College Avenue (corner of
                Ste. Catherine Street West). Arts and sports personalities
                and business leaders join the ranks of community agency
                representatives, volunteers and donors. The team from Energie
                Cardio will warm up participants for the march.

    11:45 a.m.  Brief interviews with Centraide President and Executive
                Director Michèle Thibodeau-DeGuire and participating
                personalities (a media tent will be set up on the north-west
                corner of Ste. Catherine Street and McGill College Avenue).

    12:00 noon  The march begins, led by Kumpa'nia, with animation by street
                entertainers and mascots.

    12:20 p.m.  Arrival at De Bleury Street, corner of René-Lévesque (grounds
                adjacent to the Théâtre du Gesù), and announcement of the
                goal of Centraide Campaign 2008 (photo opportunities)

    1:00 p.m.   End of the event: Individual interviews.

    PHOTO PLATFORMS: Four raised Hydro-Québec and Vidéotron platforms will be
installed for photographers and camera operators wishing to take overhead
shots of the march: THREE on Ste. Catherine Street West (one at the south-west
corner of McGill College, one at the corner of Union, and one at the
north-west corner of De Bleury) and ONE on the grounds adjacent to the Théâtre
du Gesù (on De Bleury, corner of René-Lévesque).
