/R E P E A T -- Canadian Dermatology Association - Golfing enthusiasts offered free skin cancer checks at 2008 RBC Canadian Open/

TORONTO, July 24 /CNW/ - Golfing enthusiasts attending the 2008 RBC
Canadian Open on Thursday July 24 and Friday July 25, 2008, can take advantage
of free skin cancer screenings offered by local dermatologists as part of a
joint skin cancer prevention and early detection effort targeting this high
risk group.
Golfers who are worried about spots or changing skin lesions, and those
who freckle or burn easily after sun exposure, are encouraged to come for a
free skin check.
Aside from being screened, participants will be advised of what to look
for when it comes to skin cancer. Up to 50 % of all skin cancers are found by
people themselves, so awareness can aid in early detection and lessen the
amount of treatment required.
The skin cancer screening clinic, located in the Spectator Village, will
operate from 9 am to 3 pm on July 24 and 25, 2008. Private booths will be set
up inside a large tent. Most often, sun-exposed areas, such as the face, neck,
arms and legs, are checked. Many men have their backs examined too.
