Quebec Wakes Up to a New Day and a New Colour... Yellow

Quebec's First Yellow Margarines Hit Store Shelves

MONTREAL, Aug. 20 /CNW/ - This Wednesday, Quebecers will be waking up to
something many haven't seen before - yellow margarine. Due to a change in
Quebec legislation this July, margarine manufacturers will be able to sell
yellow margarine for the first time in 21 years. The timing could not be
better for Quebecers as new Becel Gold, with Buttery Taste is being introduced
to the Quebec market. This is the first Becel product in Quebec that will be
yellow in colour, rather than the traditional white that up until now was the
norm for all margarines in the province.
"The timing for the change in legislation was perfect for us," said
Margaret McKellar, Brand Manager, Becel. "Our goal for Becel Gold, with
Buttery Taste was to provide Quebecers with a great tasting new margarine that
was low in saturated fat and had no trans fat. Now, we can also give them a
great looking margarine."
Stores across Quebec have begun receiving their first shipments of Becel
Gold, with Buttery Taste, the latest addition to the Becel family of
margarines. Available in English Canada as Becel Buttery Taste, this new
product offers a great buttery taste experience, but with 80 per cent less
saturated fat than butter and no trans fat.
Following on the heels of the recent Health Canada announcement regarding
the need to reduce the levels of trans fat in some margarines, Becel Gold,
with Buttery Taste can be seen as a welcome addition to the household. Eating
Well with Canada's Food Guide recommends that Canadians limit butter, hard
margarine, lard and shortening, and recommends choosing soft margarines that
are low in saturated fats and contain zero trans fat.
As with all other Becel products, Becel Gold, with Buttery Taste is made
from canola and sunflower oils, but it also contains low fat buttermilk for
added richness. Additionally, each serving of Becel contains essential
polyunsaturated fats - omega-3 and omega-6 fats.
