Quebec City's 400TH anniversary tribute by visitors from Northern Quebec

    SAINT-JEAN SUR LE RICHELIEU, QC, Jan. 10 /CNW Telbec/ - To commemorate
Quebec City's 400th anniversary, Canadian Rangers from 2 Canadian Ranger
Patrol Group will salute the Huron-Wendat Nation and Quebec City residents
with a historic snowmobile ride from the province's three remote coastal
regions--Nunavik, James Bay, and the North Shore.
    The three expeditions will bring together more than 40 Canadian Rangers,
including members of the Cree, Inuit, Montagnais and Naskapis First Nations.
They will begin their snowmobile journey on January 15, 2008, meeting the
Hurons-Wendat community on January 28, 2008, and Quebec City residents on
January 29, 2008.
    The Canadian Rangers will be leaving from Kuujjuaq (Nunavik) on January
15 and will cover 2,000 km in eleven days, while the Rangers leaving from
Waskaganish (James Bay) on January 20 and from Sept-Iles (North Shore) on
January 21 will cover more than 1,500 km in eight days. The three expeditions
will converge at Bagotville in the Saguenay region on January 25 and 26.
Together, the three groups will continue along the trails of the réserve
faunique des Laurentides on January 27 and will arrive in Wendake and Quebec
City on January 28 and 29, 2008, respectively.
    The expedition, under the title "The Tribute by the Visitors from
Northern Quebec," will be the Canadian Forces' first official activity marking
the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City. Throughout 2008, the
Canadian Forces will be hosting various activities in honour of this milestone
to commemorate the military's heritage and historical presence in the city
since its founding.
