CALGARY, Jan. 9 /CNW/ - Pure Technologies Ltd. today announced the
formation of a new specialty bridge engineering division, Bridge Engineering
Solutions (BES), to service the increasing demand for bridge assessment and
monitoring services in North America.
Dr. Armin Mehrabi has been appointed President of BES. Dr. Mehrabi is a
well-known and respected specialist in bridge engineering and assessment, with
specific expertise in non-destructive evaluation techniques. He holds a Ph.D.
in civil engineering from the University of Colorado. In 1997, he was selected
as one of the top 25 Newsmakers of the Year by Engineering News Record, a
leading industry publication, for his contribution to the development of a new
non-destructive assessment method for cable-stayed bridges.
Pure Technologies has been active in bridge monitoring and inspection
since 1997. Its patented SoundPrint(R) acoustic monitoring technology is
currently installed on more than twenty bridges in six countries. Other
products include CableScan(R), a guided-wave inspection service for cable
assessment and SoundPrint PureLink(R), a web-based management interface for
structural instrumentation systems.
Jack Elliott, Chief Operating Officer of Pure Technologies, said: Recent
bridge failures in Canada and the US have highlighted the need for an
increasing emphasis on inspection, monitoring and management of bridges.
Although we have been active in providing monitoring solutions for bridges
over the last ten years, as a technology vendor we have been limited in the
opportunities we could access. The formation of Bridge Engineering Solutions,
under the leadership of Dr. Mehrabi, will allow us to offer a wider range of
innovative services and solutions to consulting engineers and bridge owners.
We are very pleased with the synergies provided by our Openaka engineering
subsidiary in the water pipeline sector and we are anticipating a similar
result in the bridge sector. We expect the division to contribute to group
revenue and profitability from its first year of operation.
