Puck set to drop on 18th Annual Irving Oil Challenge Cup

    SAINT JOHN, NB, April 1 /CNW/ - The top Bantam AAA teams from Atlantic
Canada have converged upon Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island with the hope
of hoisting the Irving Oil Challenge Cup on Sunday and bringing home, the
title of Atlantic Champions.
    The 18th Annual Irving Oil Challenge Cup, Atlantic Canada's Bantam Hockey
Championship, gets underway Thursday at the MacLauchlan Arena in
Charlottetown. As the hosts for the event, the Sherwood Parkdale Irving Oil
Falcons are looking to become the first Host team to win this event. Standing
in their way will be the four other top teams from the region who have earned
the right to play for the Bantam AAA Hockey Championship of Atlantic Canada.
    The line-up for the 2009 Irving Oil Challenge Cup will be as follows:

    - Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador - St. John's Irving Oil Ice Breakers
    - Hockey Nova Scotia - Halifax Irving Oil Hawks
    - Hockey Prince Edward Island - Kings County Irving Oil Kings
    - Hockey New Brunswick - KV Irving Oil Vitos Rangers
    - Host - Sherwood Parkdale Irving Oil Falcons

    Hockey Nova Scotia's entry in last year's event, the Cole Harbour Irving
Oil Wings, defeated the Saint John Irving Oil Sea Dogs in the gold medal game
to claim the 2008 Irving Oil Challenge Cup which was played in Truro , Nova
    Sherwood Minor Hockey has successfully hosted a number of prestigious
events; however this will be the Association's first time hosting the Irving
Oil Challenge Cup. "We are pleased to be hosting such a prestigious event.
With the support that we have received from Irving Oil, and the community
support provided by the corporate partners and residents of Charlottetown, we
are set to host a first class event," stated Tammy Callaghan, chair of the
Host Committee.
    Irving Oil has sponsored Bantam AAA Hockey throughout Atlantic Canada
since 1992. The company sponsors over 50 Bantam AAA teams each hockey season,
their respective provincial leagues and championships, as well as this
Atlantic Championship.
    "At Irving Oil, we know the importance of teamwork and we are pleased to
present the 18th Annual Irving Oil Challenge Cup, Atlantic Canada's Bantam
Hockey Championship," stated Lisa Savidant of Irving Oil. "We are very proud
of this tradition and proud of the enthusiastic players who bring their skill
and dedication to this event each year."
    Action gets underway on Thursday with the opening game of the 2009 Irving
Oil Challenge Cup taking place at 2:00pm with New Brunswick facing off against
Prince Edward Island. Other action will feature Newfoundland and Labrador up
against Nova Scotia and the final game of the day will see the Host Falcons
meeting New Brunswick.
