Public Works selects TELUS to provide and manage the global telecommunications network for the Department of National Defence in $213M deal

Technology meets current and evolving operational telecommunications
    needs for DND

TORONTO, June 28 /CNW/ - TELUS today announced it has been selected by
the Department of Public Works and Government Services Canada through a
competitive RFP process to provide and manage the telecommunications services
for the Department of National Defence (DND) including national and
international locations. The Global Defence Network Services contract value is
estimated at $213 million over five years.
"TELUS is honoured to partner with the Department of National Defence to
support the innovative delivery of best-in-class secure communications with
leading Internet Protocol technology," said Darren Entwistle, TELUS President
and CEO.
"This contract in support of Canada's Department of National Defence is
another step forward in the continued advancement of TELUS' national growth
strategy that was initiated in 2000. TELUS was the first to bring a national
IP network to Canada, setting a North American industry standard. Today, the
Canadian government has recognized the value that our investment in IP
technology, and the TELUS team's expertise, can bring to their entire
constituency in Canada and around the world."
TELUS will provide managed telecommunications services including voice,
data, video and IP solutions to the Department of National Defence. The
advanced telecommunications framework supports DND's goals of accessing a
cost-effective infrastructure that supports their current requirements and, at
the same time, provides a secure IP backbone for new services and solutions.
