OTTAWA, Oct. 16 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canada- European Union Summit is
taking place this Friday the 17th of October in Montreal. President Nicolas
Sarkozy of France and Prime Minister Stephen Harper are expected to attend.
For a number of years, Canada and the EU have been in discussions to
strengthen their economic partnership. Both partners have agreed last year to
conduct a joint study that should lead to a substantial trade agreement. An
important milestone in this process was the Public Policy Forum's May 2008
Conference entitled Canada and the EU: Prospects for a Closer Economic
Partnership. Quebec Premier Jean Charest, former Minister of International
Trade David Emerson and His Excellency Dorian Prince, Ambassador, Delegation
of the European Commission to Canada made presentations to the gathering of
leading business, academic and international trade experts who attended the
two day Conference.
