Public Policy Forum announces recipient of 2011 Emerging Leaders Award

OTTAWA, Feb. 28 /CNW/ - Victor Thomas, President of the Regina & District Chamber of Commerce, was named today as this year's recipient of the Public Policy Forum's annual Emerging Leaders Award. The award recognizes the contributions of young Canadians who personify leadership in the area of public policy and civic discourse.

"As we enter a period of unprecedented generational change, it's inspiring to know that a young Saskatchewan leader such as Victor Thomas is committed to building a stronger civic culture in Canada," said David Mitchell, President and CEO of the Public Policy Forum. "Victor exemplifies the spirit of public engagement and entrepreneurship necessary for our country's future success and resilience."

In 2005, the Public Policy Forum established the annual award to recognize emerging leaders who are in the early stages of their career and demonstrate exceptional initiative and commitment to the principles of public service. This award is sponsored by the TD Bank Financial Group.

"Well educated, well travelled, Victor Thomas is an emerging leader with experience well beyond his years," said Garnet Garven, Senior Fellow and Head of the Western Office of the Public Policy Forum. "Victor represents the very best of a new generation, leading from the West."

The award will be presented at the 24th Annual Testimonial Dinner in Toronto on April 28th. This year's Dinner will be co-Chaired by New Brunswick Premier the Hon. David Alward, and GE Canada's President and CEO Elyse Allan. The previously announced Testimonial Award honourees for 2011 are Bill Davis, Gordon Nixon, Monique Leroux and Jim Stanford. André Picard is the recipient of the 2011 Hyman Solomon Award for Excellence in Public Policy Journalism.
