LAVAL, Sept. 21 /CNW Telbec/ - Minister Responsible for Seniors
Marguerite Blais continued the public hearings on seniors' living conditions
today in Laval. She was accompanied by co-chairs Sheila Goldbloom, retired
associate professor of social science at McGill University, and Dr. Réjean
Hébert, geriatrician and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences
at the Université de Sherbrooke.
The Laval session made it possible for 200 individuals to take part in
the consultation. Minister Marguerite Blais was thrilled with this meeting on
the Northern tier. "As elsewhere, I have shared both the pain and the humble
joys of Laval seniors. I am cheered by the thought that as much our reaction
to the difficulties as the magnificent initiatives taken in Laval will serve
to create improvements in the quality of life of our seniors. I am also
pleased to note the strength of the community organizations here in Laval. It
is something that really encourages us to pursue our endeavors."
Between now and the end of October, the public hearings will travel to
20 cities, in an effort to learn more about the situation of seniors in
relation to themes such as their social contribution, intergenerational
solidarity, finances, the contribution of family caregivers, and their
different living environments, including public and private residences and
home support.
Those unable to attend the Laval session can obtain a list of the cities
on the tour or post their comments online at
