TORONTO, April 9 /CNW/ - So long CORNER GAS, and thanks for the memories.
Millions of fans across the country are preparing to say goodbye before the
sun sets on Dog River this coming Monday, April 13 at 9:30 p.m. ET on CTV and
'A' (visit to confirm local broadcast times). Meanwhile, celebrity
guest stars, industry insiders, politicians, critics and others comment on the
end of an era:

The Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada & Guest

"CORNER GAS has kept Canadian families, including my own, laughing for
the last six seasons. Thanks to your combined talents as cast and crew, Brent,
Lacey, Wanda, Hank, Oscar, Emma, Davis, Karen and the residents of Dog River
are now part of Canada's comedy history. While my time on the set was brief,
my memories of that day will last a lifetime. On behalf of the Government of
Canada, Laureen, Ben, Rachel and I offer all of you at CORNER GAS my
congratulations on six memorable (seasons)."

The Honourable Brad Wall, Premier of Saskatchewan & Guest Star

"We want to thank Saskatchewan's own Brent Butt, and the Corner Gas
producers, cast and crew for six years of laughter. Their stories have really
captured the spirit of this great province, and shown off Saskatchewan to the

    Senator Pamela Wallin, Guest Star

"So as...the Senator for Dog River, I just want to say on behalf of the
whole province...we love you. You really did put us on the map and I know you
are going to exist in reruns forever, but what a wonderful contribution you
made to the province, to the country and for making us see what life is like
in small towns. That's where I am from and I love it, it is the heart and soul
of this country."

Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc.

"CORNER GAS changed the game for Canadian scripted comedy. Thank you to
Brent Butt for creating a cast of characters that has resonated so strongly
with viewers, to the perfect cast that has so vividly brought them to life and
to the dream writing and producing team that took such care over six
unforgettable seasons."

Mike Reid, Canadian Soldier, as posted to

"When on a break from our forward operating base, I would catch the show
at 3 a.m. Kandahar time. Gave me a great touch at home. Thanks so much guys."

    Michael Bublé, Guest Star

"I would like to say thank you so much for 35 years of laughter and
tears. I really like the show and I have a lot of friends that do, here and in
States and all over the world, actually. What a great privilege it was to be
part of the show. Congrats to all of deserve the success and laughs
that you get and I can't wait to see what you do next."

Shirley Douglas & Kiefer Sutherland, Guest Stars

"Please don't go! Just go to the cottage, have a rest and come back! Too
many people in Canada and around the world are counting on you. For God's
sake, don't retire to Victoria and tell us that your flowers are blooming in
January! All our love, and best of luck."

Lloyd Robertson, Chief Anchor and Senior Editor of CTV News & Guest Star

"What a gas it was for me to step out of my traditional role and appear
in those cameos on CORNER GAS. Like everyone else, I will miss that show but I
am also proud to be part of a network that created such a genuine hit with
wonderful characters; superb acting, writing and directing talent; and the
setting in Saskatchewan, now Canada's go-to province. Brent and gang: I know
it was your choice to take your leave, but that doesn't take from the sting of
your departure. Best of luck - we'll watch for you in reruns."

    Mayor Allen Kuhlmann, Rouleau, SK

"A fantasy time for Rouleau is winding down. The mythical name identity
for our town is a wonderful side effect of the phenomenal success of the
CORNER GAS. Tourism in Saskatchewan, especially in Rouleau, will soon begin to
feel the end of this great series....Does Rouleau now truly become Dog River
with nothing much going on? At the time of year when we would soon experience
the hustle and bustle of filming in the streets. We now see nothing
instead.....We all knew it would end someday, but did it have to be so soon?
Rouleau will always be here and we welcome one and all to come visit and
perhaps even settle in the mythical town of Dog River!"

Sara Morton, CEO, Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television

"The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television salutes the cast, crew and
creators of the multiple Gemini Award-winning CORNER GAS. You have led a
resurgence of the sitcom form in Canada and helped raise the profile of
Canadian television around the world. We'll miss you, and look forward to all
of your new adventures!"

    Richard Hardacre, National President, ACTRA

"We know Canadians have the talent, the tenacity and the comedic chops to
create hit series like CORNER GAS. But this show has been unique. Thank you
for sharing it with the world, thanks for the laughs, and most of all, thanks
for mining some of the gold of Canada, the common quirks and charms of small
towns right across this great country. CORNER GAS is 'Exhibit A' of why it's
so important to celebrate our own colourful characters, curmudgeons included,
and share our own stories on our screens."

Brian Anthony, National Executive Director & CEO, Directors Guild of

"CORNER GAS raised the bar for Canadian television and showcased the
extraordinary talent we have in this country. It has left an indelible mark on
television and will be the benchmark of high-quality comedy. I'm proud the DGC
was a part of it."

Maureen Parker, Executive Director, Writers Guild of Canada

"Corner Gas has come to exemplify quality Canadian television. Written by
Canadians for Canadians and set in a world we know, the show has a warmth and
humour that is distinctly ours. Cheers to the great Canadian talent that made
it happen."

    Walter Daroshin, President, Leo Awards

"At times, comedy can be a serious business, in particular when
undergoing the scrutiny of adjudication. CORNER GAS has consistently met the
standards of artistic excellence we demand of our nominees and award
recipients. It's been an honour to celebrate CORNER GAS over the years."

John Doyle, Television Critic, The Globe and Mail

"Anyone who fails to appreciate the exquisite comical whimsy and admire
the stunning popular success of CORNER GAS is a jackass."

Peter Vamos, Executive Director, Banff World Television Festival

"The show was a true phenomenon. Not since the TROUBLE WITH TRACEY has
there been a domestically produced show so loved by Canadian viewers. It has
inspired and invigorated the television producers and broadcasters across the
country. Everyone wants to uncover the next CORNER GAS."

Michele Sponagle, Author, Tales From Dog River and Dog River Confidential

"When I began work on my first CORNER GAS book, Tales From Dog River,
there was a fear that peering behind the curtain at the mechanics of the show
would somehow take away its magic for myself and fans. But that hasn't been
the case at all. Revealing how much passion and care has been poured into the
show has deepened the appreciation of it. I'm sure that the upcoming second
book, Dog River Confidential, chronicling the last three seasons and its
finale, will fan the flames of this love affair with CORNER GAS even more."

Jonathan Gross, President, Video Service Corp.

"We have sold over half a million CORNER GAS DVDs, which not only speaks
to the quality of the show, but to the tired preconception that Canadians
don't support their own. This has been a rewarding experience on so many

    Jim Gardner, Founder, Bruzer Sportsgear

"From t-shirts and hoodies to Ruby coffee mugs and Brent's signature gas
station attendant shirt, the Dog River Clothing Company is the tangible
response to the success of this series. Hundreds of thousands of viewers have
worn their support and pride for CORNER GAS on their backs, generating
millions of dollars worth of sales. This program has been unlike any other in
the way that Canadians have embraced it, and we're proud to have been along
for the ride as the finale episode approaches."
