Press Release no. 4 - By-election of September 24, 2007 - You Must be Entered on the List of Electors To Exercise your Right to Vote

QUEBEC CITY, Aug. 30 /CNW Telbec/ - The Chief Electoral Officer of
Québec, Me Marcel Blanchet, would like to remind the public that, to vote in
the by-election scheduled in the electoral division of Charlevoix on Monday,
September 24, 2007, you must be a qualified elector and be entered on the list
of electors. Me Blanchet would also like to mention that the revision of the
list of electors will take place from September 3 to 11, 2007, in this
electoral division.
A qualified elector is someone who, on polling day, is 18 years old, is a
Canadian citizen and has been domiciled in Québec for at least six months or
for at least twelve months in the case of an elector who would like to vote
outside Québec. Furthermore, this person must not be under curatorship, or be
disqualified from voting.
Me Blanchet would also like to stress that every elector is responsible
for ensuring that his name is entered on the list of electors and that it is
entered correctly. In this respect, a notice will be sent to every address
showing the information concerning electors who are entered at that address or
mentioning, if that is the case, that no elector is entered at that address.
It is thus very important to examine this notice and to not to discard it
since it also contains other important information for the exercise of voting
rights.

THE REVISION OF THE LIST OF ELECTORS

It is during the revision period scheduled from September 3 to 11, 2007,
that electors may file an application for entry, correction or striking off
the list of electors.
If an elector notices that his name does not appear on the notice that
was mailed to him, that there is an error in his entry or if he would like his
name to be struck off the list of electors, he can file an application to that
effect during the revision period. An elector who notices, for instance, that
someone else is entered at his address, may take advantage of the revision
period to have the name struck off the list of electors.
An application can be filed by the elector personally or by a spouse, a
relative or someone who cohabits with the elector. Applications for entry must
be accompanied by two identification documents one of which must mention the
name and date of birth of the elector concerned while the other must mention
his name and domiciliary address.
All applications for entry, correction or striking off must be filed at
the revision office indicated on the notice received. The list of revision
offices their addresses is also published in newspapers.
Furthermore, electors can know the address of the revision office to
which they are assigned by consulting the Website of the Chief Electoral
Officer at www.electionsquebec.qc.ca, where they can simply enter their code
postal and civic number of their domicile at the appropriate places. This
information can also be received by contacting the Info Centre at 1 888
ELECTION (1 888 353-2846).

    MOBILE REVISION

The Chief Electoral Officer offers the possibility for electors who are
unable to move about for health reasons to be entered on the list of electors
and to make corrections to it. Subject to a written request from such
electors, a mobile board of revisors can visit their domicile. A mobile board
of revisors can also visit the 24 residential facilities in the electoral
division of Charlevoix that are registered with the ministère de la Santé and
des Services sociaux. For more information, you can contact the Info Centre or
consult the special section on the Website of the Chief Electoral Officer
devoted to the by-election. Simply click the "Electors" tab, then on "If you
have difficulties voting".
