QUEBEC CITY, March 14 /CNW Telbec/ - The Chief Electoral Officer of
Québec, Me Marcel Blanchet, would like to inform electors who were not able to
take advantage of the regular revision period that they can they have a last
opportunity during the special revision period that starts today and ends on
March 22nd at 2 p.m.
Thus, electors who would like to register on the list of electors, make a
correction to their registration or request the striking off of their name
must, in most cases, go to the office of the returning officer of their
electoral division. These applications can be presented between 9 a.m. and
9 p.m., Monday to Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Note that in certain electoral divisions that cover a very large territory,
electors may have more than one office where they can submit their
It is worth mentioning that any application made at the special revision
office must be accompanied by two identification documents, one of which must
mention the elector's name and date of birth (e.g.: birth certificate or
health insurance card) while the other must contain the elector's name and
address of domicile (e.g.: lease or phone bill). In addition, unlike the
procedure that is followed during the regular revision period, any application
made during the special revision period must be made by the elector personally
except, of course, the application is made for a deceased person.
Finally, Me Blanchet would like to remind persons who register on the
list of electors during the special revision period that they can exercise
their voting right only on polling day, i.e., on March 26th and that, as a
result, they cannot vote in the advance poll.
It is also worth noting that, unlike the procedure for federal elections,
the Québec Election Act does not permit electors to register on the list of
electors on polling day. The deadline for registering on the list of electors
is thus March 22, 2007, at 2 p.m.
