Premier McGuinty Kicks Off Ottawa South Campaign

McGuinty Accepts Nomination, Vows To Keep Moving Forward, Together

OTTAWA, Sept. 13, 2011 /CNW/ - Kicking off his Ottawa South campaign today, Premier Dalton McGuinty said he would continue to work hard for a stronger Ontario economy and stronger community for all Ottawa families.

The Ontario Liberal Plan has already led to the lowest surgical wait times in Canada, the best schools in the English-speaking world, and Ontario has created more full-time jobs this year than the rest of Canada combined.

"Under the last PC government, they closed schools and hospitals, including attempting to close Montfort Hospital — not only did we stop that, we doubled its size," said McGuinty. "Ontario Liberals have turned the page and delivered results for Ottawa."

In addition to Montfort, the last PC government also tried to close the CHEO Cardiac Unit. Ontario Liberals fought them and won. Ontario Liberals delivered a major expansion at CHEO, which means critically ill babies and children are getting the best access to care as quickly as possible.

During the past eight years, there has been a crane at every hospital in Ottawa. New cancer centres at the Queensway Carleton Hospital and the Ottawa Hospital mean more patients are served quicker and closer to home.

"Representing my home riding of Ottawa South has been an honour and a privilege," McGuinty said. "This is where I grew up, went to school, met my wife Terri, where we bought our first home, raised our kids and still live."

McGuinty was joined by a strong team of Ontario Liberal candidates and members from across Ottawa.

With Ontario Liberals 19,000 more students have found a place at our colleges and universities in Ottawa. The libraries at the University of Ottawa and Carleton University have been expanded so students have the space and resources they need. The new Vanier Building at the University of Ottawa is going to mean even more student spaces.

"Ontario is on track for a stronger future," said McGuinty. "The Hudak PCs have a $14 billion hole in their platform — that means deep cuts that will put our economy, education and health care at risk.  The Horwath NDP would introduce a crushing $9 billion in job-killing taxes.  Both would take Ontario off track at the worst time. Only Ontario Liberals have the strong plan that will help Ontario families compete in the global economy. I'm going to fight hard for that plan to keep us moving forward, together."
