330-hp special edition features numerous functional and visual upgrades

MISSISSAUGA, ON, May 6 /CNW/ - Completing a trio of 2012 Black Edition models, started this spring with the launch of the 911 Black Edition and Boxster S Black Edition, Porsche's sporty new Cayman S Black Edition arrives in Canadian dealerships this fall packing improved performance and a wide array of extra equipment.

The special-edition Cayman, limited to 500 units worldwide, is powered by a 3.4 litre six-cylinder boxer engine with power output increased by 10 hp to 330. This improves 0-100 km/h acceleration times by a tenth of a second - 5.1 seconds with the six-speed manual and just 4.8 seconds with the optional PDK double-clutch transmission and the launch control function of the optional Sport Chrono package. Top track speed is up by 2 km/h to 279 km/h with the manual transmission and 277 km/h with PDK.

The Cayman S Black Edition is not just faster in a straight line; its handling has been improved as well. The lightweight 19-inch wheels, painted in black, are not only one inch larger in diameter than the standard Cayman S wheels, but are also a half-inch wider than the Cayman S' optional 19-inch wheels; tires are 235/35 ZR 19 front and 265/35 ZR 19 rear.

The Cayman S Black Edition features a long list of extra features. Black exterior and interior elements include the wheels, twin tailpipes, gauges and interior trim, which contrast with stainless-steel door entry guards. Bi-xenon headlights with dynamic cornering lights are standard, as are auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors, rain sensor and automatic climate control. The standard infotainment package includes a touch-screen navigation system, Bluetooth, iPod-enabled BOSE surround-sound and satellite radio. The black leather seats feature embossed Porsche crests, while the steering wheel has a sporty new design.

The functional and visual upgrades of the Cayman S Black Edition come at a price of $77,000 - a substantial savings over a less-powerful Cayman S with similar equipment.
