MONTREAL, Jan. 31 /CNW Telbec/ - HATCH (Consulting engineering) and its
client QIT-Fer et Titane have won the Project of the Year Award given during
the 3rd edition of the Gala ELIXIR, organised by PMI-Montreal (Project
Management Institute). The Gala honours excellence in the field of project
HATCH Ltd. is a privately owned company, and supplies consulting services
in engineering, project and construction management. Hatch completed plant
expansion projects for the QIT-Fer et Titane complex in Sorel-Tracy, which
resulted in a 15% increase in production capacity. Initially budgeted at
CAN $145 million, the project was completed three months ahead of schedule
with savings of $15 million, with no compensable accidents.
Journal Les Affaires is associated with the 3rd Gala ELIXIR, and to
tangibly highlight its support, it now announces the creation of the
PMI-Montréal/Les Affaires Relève Award, to be first attributed in 2009. Prize
rules and conditions will be made public shortly. This award is aimed at
spotlighting a university student's outstanding work on a final course project
done in a company setting. As Stéphane Lavallée, publisher of Journal Les
Affaires and the LesAffaires.com Web site explains: "This is an ideal vehicle
for Les Affaires to promote project management expertise as well as the next
crop of business people, both of which are crucial elements in business."
PMI takes this opportunity to send out a request for candidates for the
2009 Gala ELIXIR awards. PMI is the world's leading not-for-profit association
for the project management profession, with more than 250 000 members in
160 countries. It sets worldwide standards in project management, and offers
professional credentials (including the Project Management Professional - PMP)
that organizations increasingly require of their project managers.
PMI-Montreal is one of the Institute's largest chapters, with a
membership of nearly 3 000 Quebec project management specialists, more than
half of whom are certified Project Management Professionals (PMP).
