MONTREAL, Feb. 12 /CNW Telbec/ - For the seventh year in a row, the
Société de la Place des Arts is holding its Annual Ephemeral Artwork
Competition to select the temporary work that will be installed in the
Esplanade pool next spring. The selected work will be on display all summer
long and will be seen by the millions of visitors who frequent the Esplanade
at Place des Arts.
"With the Esplanade playing host to many festivals and enjoying a lively
atmosphere during the summer, this large public space is an ideal spot to be
turned into a venue for creative activity. Place des Arts is pleased to
support artists' creativity in all its forms," stated Marie Lavigne, President
and CEO of Place des Arts.
The Annual Ephemeral Artwork Competition is open to all Québec artists
working in the following disciplines: visual arts, architecture, design, and
landscape architecture. The proposed work must meet certain criteria; it must
notably be temporary, as it will only be displayed during the summer season.
The work must also be water-resistant, for the Esplanade pool will continue to
be in use, with 16 functioning water jets, over the course of the summer while
the work is being exhibited.
A jury of four individuals, made up of representatives of Place des Arts
and other cultural organizations, will judge the work based on specific
elements of originality, integration to the site, aesthetic qualities, and
