Photon's Sensing Technology is Moving to Commercialization

BURNABY, BC, Sept. 23 /CNW/ - Photon Control Inc. ("Photon") (TSX-V: PHO)
is pleased to announce that it has received the first production purchase
order from its Fortune 500 customer for a new OEM wafer positioning system
with high-temperature performance. This device is now approved for a
semiconductor transfer chamber tool to replace the conventional positioning
system which is currently selling in volume. This product is expected to
immediately boost Photon sales by approximately $250K per quarter over the
next year, starting in Q4 2008.
Photon is also pleased to announce initial sales of an ultra-compact,
low-cost, fiber-optic temperature sensor and electronic converter module
targeted for high volume sales in the growing Asian market. "Initial market
reaction has been extremely positive, and sales are expected to ramp rapidly
because the low price point is now competitive with regular electrical
temperature sensors," comments Daryl James, Manager of Product Development.
"Our market research indicates that demand for this product could build to
100,000 units per year. As such, we are pursuing this opportunity aggressively
with a number of new distribution and OEM partners."
"Photon advanced fiber-optic sensing technology in both high and low
temperature ranges," adds Ivan Melnyk, Photon's Chief Technology Officer.
"Recently, we focused and progressed into a third dimension - low cost. This
will allow us to expand the market dramatically by adding to the high-end
semiconductor applications a wide range of customers where low cost per
measuring channel is needed."
Photon is also preparing its first 16-channel fiber optic temperature
sensing system to be delivered in October to a leading manufacturer of MRI
Sales of Photon's fiber optic spectrometers increased in 2008 by 62% as
new customers are taking advantage of the product's performance and cost.
Additional sales of these products are expected after successful demonstration
at JAIMA-2008, the Japan Analytical Instruments Manufacturers Association, in
September 2008, Tokyo, Japan.
