Pfizer Canada proudly supports ACTI-MENU in the 5/30 Health and Wellness Challenge

All participants need is a smidge™ to stay on track

KIRKLAND, QC, Jan. 6 /CNW Telbec/ - Once again, Pfizer Canada is proud to support this year's 5/30 Health and Wellness Challenge, an ACTI-MENU initiative in partnership with the Montreal Heart Institute's Prevention Division and the Canadian Cancer Society, that encourages adults and children over the age of four to adopt or continue to practice a healthy and active lifestyle.

The 5/30 Health and Wellness Challenge is a province-wide campaign that urges all Quebecers to take action on their health for at least six weeks―from March 1 to April 11, 2011. During the Challenge, participants enrolled in the program agree to eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day and engage in 30 minutes of physical activity for at least five days during the week.

"While Pfizer's mission is to provide essential and innovative medications, we also recognize that it takes more than medication to be truly healthy. Programs such as this one highlight the importance of finding balance to achieve physical health," says Ghislain Boudreau, Vice-President of Public Affairs and Stakeholder Relations at Pfizer Canada. "Although we've taken part in this challenge for the last 4 years, this is the first time that Quebecers will be able to rely on the help of smidge™, Pfizer's first ever "app", available free at the iTunes and Blackberry App World stores, to track their progress."

Eating more fruits and veggies is one of six activities that can be found on smidge™.  This free app was created as a health motivator that allows users to set up reminders, record their activities and share their accomplishments on Facebook, Twitter and via email. Developed with the support and assistance of leading Canadian experts that include medical doctors, stress experts, life coaches, fitness trainers, dietitians and nutritionists, smidge™ embraces the philosophy that it's more helpful to focus health choices on small, sustainable steps as opposed to trying to incorporate large, sweeping health goals all at one time.

smidge™ is part of Pfizer Canada's More than Medication® program; a wellness awareness initiative that's devoted completely to non-medicinal health information.  Quebecers can visit morethanmedication.ca for more information about smidge™ and a wide variety of audio, video and interactive health tools.
