Peter E. Gilgan, CEO of The Mattamy Corporation, named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year(R) 2007 for Ontario

    Community Developer and Builder Takes Home Prestigious Business Award

    TORONTO, Oct. 18 /CNW/ - At a gala awards presentation this evening,
Peter E. Gilgan, The Mattamy Corporation CEO, was the recipient of the Ernst &
Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2007 award for Ontario. Mr. Gilgan was also
named the 2007 Ontario Manufacturing Entrepreneur Of The Year at the banquet
and ceremony in Toronto.
    "Mr. Gilgan's foresight and professional skills have really built his
business to the great success it is today," said Dan Cornacchia, director of
the Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards Program for Ontario. "His ability to
understand and meet the needs of his customers are the reasons behind his
award-winning community planning and innovative building techniques."
    A true leader, Mr. Gilgan brings personal and professional skill sets to
the operation of The Mattamy Corporation. He brought the New Urbanism concepts
into his trademarked WideLot(TM) building and planning principles. He is able
to connect with people on a personal level and has a fierce determination to
satisfy homeowners - the hallmarks of Mattamy Homes. The culture of his
business is one of drive for achievement with an openness to learn new
approaches and processes.
    The results of these efforts have garnered numerous pinnacle Homebuilder
of the Year awards including Greater Toronto Homebuilder Association (2007)
and Ontario Homebuilder Association (2006) as well as specific awards such as
Community of the Year and Project of the Year for Hawthorne Village in Milton,
and Project of the Year for Watercolours in Lorne Park. As well, homeowners
placed Mattamy Homes as number one in total homeowner satisfaction in the 2006
J.D. Power Survey for the greater Toronto area.
    As a homebuilder and father of eight children, Mr. Gilgan is committed to
supporting charities that focus on families and children. He is the perennial
co-host of the annual Mayor's Invitational Softball Tournament in support of
the YMCA of Oakville and has directed Mattamy's support of the Children's Wish
Foundation through an organized motorcycle Poker Run. In 2008, Mr. Gilgan will
lead his third annual long distance bicycle ride in support of fundraising for
the Sick Kids Hospital of Toronto.
    As the Entrepreneur Of The Year for Ontario, Mr. Gilgan will compete with
top entrepreneurs from the Pacific, Prairies, Québec and Atlantic regions for
the honour of Canada's Entrepreneur Of The Year, to be announced November 1,
2007, in Toronto. In June 2008, Canada's Entrepreneur Of The Year will move to
the world stage to vie with more than 40 country recipients for the title of
Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year. Canada's own Guy Laliberté from
Cirque du Soleil was the recipient of the 2007 World Entrepreneur Of The Year
