MONTREAL, May 21 /CNW Telbec/ - Société du parc Jean-Drapeau announced
this morning its colorful 2009 programming. With the theme Parc Jean-Drapeau:
An Amazing World, this year's program offers a wide array of not-to-be-missed
activities for anyone who enjoys shows, cultural, athletic, and other events.
In all, more than 75 events will be presented, including shows by the Gillett
Entertainment Group, a race in the NASCAR series, national and international
competitions, and various Montreal festivals.
New this year, thrill-seekers will be delighted to learn that Parc
Jean-Drapeau now has L'espace Aérodium, a vertical wind tunnel for human
flying, in the open sky. The public will also be able to rent Segways for
green travel around the site. For festival fans, Quebec's first Virgin
Festival will take place at Parc Jean-Drapeau on June 19 and 20, 2009.
Naturally, the Parc's classic events are back in 2009, including the
Week-ends du monde, from July 17 to 26. This event offers an outstanding
window on the cultural wealth of our city. Also back are Piknic Electronik,
aimed at making electronic music more accessible, and the Osheaga Festival of
music and arts, in its fourth year. Just as popular, the Fête des enfants de
Montréal, from August 14 to 16, will give families an opportunity to discover
all kinds of treasures. Kids will be given free rein to explore their
creativity, with performances of song, music, and dance as well as a host of
workshops, cooperative games and giant inflatable structures, all for free.
In addition to its wide variety of programming, Parc Jean-Drapeau offers
unique recreational and tourist infrastructures, including the Ile
Sainte-Hélène aquatic complex, the circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, La Ronde, the
Olympic basin, Environment Canada's Biosphere, the Floralies gardens, the
Casino de Montréal, 25 km of bike paths, the beach at Parc Jean-Drapeau, the
Stewart Museum, and Hélène de Champlain restaurant.
According to Serge Rémillard, chairman of the board of Société du parc
Jean-Drapeau, "the outstanding combination of events and attractions at Parc
Jean-Drapeau not only makes it an amazing world, but also makes it a
recreational and tourist site that is unique in Canada. As well, we are
working on a redevelopment concept for the fiftieth anniversary of Expo 67 in
2017. Historically, our site has always been at the heart of international
events in Montreal, and we would like to see this continue."
Société du parc Jean-Drapeau has a mission to manage, develop, protect,
and program activities for Parc Jean-Drapeau, by presenting major recreational
and tourist events. For additional details on the different events and
