TORONTO, Sept. 13 /CNW/ - Next week PAIRO will, for the sixth year, play
host to over 90 Ontario underserviced communities during the Health
Professionals Recruitment Tour. Communities, suffering from a shortage of
physicians, nurses, occupational and physical therapists, and other health
care providers will take the opportunity to showcase lifestyle, educational
and employment opportunities available. Last year, over 1100 students, doctors
in training and established health care professionals visited the job fair.
"PAIRO is pleased to be working with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term
Care, Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, and over 100 communities to
plan and operate the Tour," said Dr. Kevin Ramchandar, President of PAIRO (The
Professional Association of Internes and Residents of Ontario representing
over 3,600 doctors-in-training). The Health Professionals Recruitment Tour is
funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and Ministry of
Northern Development and Mines and is administered by PAIRO. Communities with
populations ranging in size from under 10,000 to over 100,000, from Red Lake
to Cornwall, will travel to five of the academic health science centre cities
where PAIRO members and other health professionals will attend the job fair,
seeking educational and employment opportunities.
"The Tour does two things: first, it helps more than 100 underserviced
Ontario communities recruit qualified health professionals and second, it
helps our members and other health professionals select their ideal practice
location right after graduation," said Dr. Kevin Ramchandar.
"Since 1993, PAIRO has been actively advocating for novel ways to attract
new physicians to underserviced areas such as alternative practice
arrangements, increasing community involvement and spousal support programs.
Most importantly, we have been working directly with leaders in more than 100
communities through the Tour, and by establishing the Resident Placement
Program and PAIRO Registry (now HFOJobs)."
The Tour will be held in:
Ottawa September 16 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm Ottawa Congress Centre
Kingston September 17 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm Portsmouth Olympic
Hamilton September 18 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm Liuna Station Convention
London September 19 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm Great Hall, Somerville
Toronto September 20 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm U of T 89 Chestnut
The week long job fair also offers recruiting communities and
organizations a unique opportunity to network and share best practices.
