Pablo Rodriguez: Blackburn's duplessist face revealed

MONTREAL, Sept. 30 /CNW Telbec/ - The Member of Parliament and liberal
candidate for Honoré-Mercier, Mr. Pablo Rodriguez, is flabbergasted by
Jean-Pierre Blackburn's absolutely irresponsible comments. Just as La Presse
revealed today that Mr. Blackburn, Minister of economic development, required
political contributions from businessmen in order to meet with them, the
Minister responded to a poll predicting his defeat by accusing the electors of
his riding of being ungrateful: "After all I've done for them! I brought
247 millions into this region." ("Après tout ce que j'ai fait pour eux! J'ai
amené 247 millions dans ma région.")

    According to Mr. Rodriguez :

"While the economic stakeholders of Quebec's regions must literally pay
to meet with the Minister, he deals out around his own riding
$ 250 million of Canadians' tax money in the expectation that it will
assure his re-election. When we think of all the projects of regional
economic development which he refuses to support, we are right to be
appalled by the Minister's shameless economic pandering."

Minister Blackburn's totally inappropriate reaction is reminiscent of the
worst years of the Duplessis regime. It demonstrates that Mr. Blackburn deals
out taxpayers' money in the hope of gaining political capital and that he
targets governmental investments towards his supporters. While he was flooding
his riding with public funds, and while he was requiring contributions from
businessmen who wanted to meet with him, Minister Blackburn was
indiscriminately cutting programs for the economic development of other
regions of Quebec. No contribution: no meeting: no money.

    For Rodriguez,

"It's a shame! We've denounced Minister Blackburn's actions on all
fronts. In light of the new revelations, Prime Minister Harper has no
choice but to request the Minister's resignation."
