Overture and Alliance strike Canadian distribution deal

    BEVERLY HILLS, CA, Sept. 25 /CNW/ - Overture Films and Alliance Films
jointly announced today that Alliance Films will be the exclusive distributor
for Overture Films in Canada through 2010. The multi-year output deal covering
all rights to Overture's movies in Canada was announced by Overture's CEO
Chris McGurk and Alliance Films' Executive Chairman, Victor Loewy.

Marchand and the entire management team," McGurk and Overture COO, Danny
Rosett stated. "Alliance's rich history and strong foothold in the marketplace
ensure that they will continue to be the premiere distribution partner in

    This partnership with Alliance completes Overture's global distribution
plan. The company now has top tier major studio-quality distribution
capabilities through its domestic theatrical, home entertainment in the U.S.
via Anchor Bay Entertainment, and a pay TV output deal in the U.S. with Starz.
Its comprehensive international distribution arrangement with Paramount
Vantage International and Paramount International was finalized earlier this
    Alliance Films represents the most respected names in U.S. moviemaking,
including Miramax Films, New Line, The Weinstein Company, and Focus Features.
In bringing Overture Films into its distribution family, Alliance Films
further strengthens its position as the leading distributor in Canada. The
partnership with Overture will add an additional 8 to 12 films per year to
Alliance's slate, starting with Mad Money on January 25, 2008. Mad Money is
directed by Oscar(R) winner Callie Khouri and stars Diane Keaton, Queen
Latifah, and Katie Holmes as three female employees of the Federal Reserve who
plot to steal money that is about to be destroyed.
    Overture Films most recently acquired all North American rights to Tom
McCarthy's The Visitor at the 2007 Toronto Film Festival. Overture is
currently in production on Traitor, a politically charged espionage thriller
starring Don Cheadle and Guy Pearce. The company is domestically distributing
the action-thriller Righteous Kill, starring Oscar(R) winners Robert DeNiro
and Al Pacino, which began principal photography earlier this month. The
company also begins shooting Last Chance Harvey, starring Oscar(R) winners
Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson, in London at the beginning of October.
Earlier this year, Overture Films acquired all U.S. rights to Ferris Wheel, an
emotional drama about a young girl's search for parental love, starring
Oscar(R) winner Charlize Theron. Overture is also in active development on 105
Degrees and Rising, an ensemble piece set against the backdrop of the Fall of
Saigon, to be directed by Jon Amiel.

as well as distributing independent films from many other prominent producers.
