Organization of CANDU Industries supports the government's strategy to strengthen Atomic Energy of Canada Limited

A strong AECL is good for Canada's nuclear industry

PICKERING, ON, May 28 /CNW/ - The Organization of CANDU Industries (OCI)
applauds the federal government's intent to position Atomic Energy of Canada
Limited (AECL) for success in the international marketplace. The announcement
by Natural Resources Minister Lisa Raitt about plans to restructure AECL
demonstrates the government's recognition of the tremendous opportunity for
the Canadian nuclear industry, and the need to ensure AECL is positioned for
success as the worldwide nuclear renaissance unfolds.
"We are very pleased to see that the government recognizes the importance
of the nuclear industry and wants to create the circumstances in which the
industry can thrive," says OCI President Dr. Neil Alexander. "In the
increasingly competitive international marketplace it is important to have a
clear focus. A stronger AECL, positioned to compete internationally, will have
a powerful impact on Canada's economy and the thousands of workers who make up
Canada's nuclear supply chain."
The member companies of OCI have a stake in AECL's success, and support
the government's interest in ensuring AECL plays a key role in driving growth
in Canada's nuclear industry.
"A fully mobilized and efficient supply chain is critical to the success
of the construction of a nuclear plant, and OCI members have developed an
impeccable reputation for delivering parts and services consistently on-time
and on-budget for AECL and its customers," says Dr. Alexander. "Potential
buyers recognize the value of Canada's strong supply chain, achieved as a
result of more than 30 years of continuous work supporting the construction of
CANDU reactors around the world."
