Open your home and heart to a rescued pet and earn a Friend for Life!

Third-annual Iams Friends for Life Week to promote pet adoption and
    responsible pet ownership across Canada

TORONTO, April 30 /CNW/ - Looking for your "paw-fect" match? Adopt a cat
or dog during Iams Friends for Life Week and take home a friend for life! From
May 7 to 13, 2007, the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies (CFHS), in
partnership with Iams, will celebrate the third-annual Iams Friends for Life
Week, a one-week national campaign dedicated to promoting pet adoptions and
providing Canadians with the tools and information they need to be responsible
pet owners.
During the campaign, Iams will donate $1.00 from each purchase of IAMS
Dry Dog and Cat Foods to the CFHS (up to a maximum of $80,000 CDN), ultimately
helping to fund programs that support local member shelters across the
In addition, to help promote pet adoptions on a local level, Iams will
donate 8 lbs of dog food and 4 lbs of cat food to participating shelters for
each dog or cat adoption that takes place over the course of Iams Friends for
Life Week, up to a maximum of 20,000 lbs of pet food for the total program.
"We are proud to partner with Iams on this important awareness and
fundraising campaign," said Steve Carroll, CEO of the CFHS. "With thousands of
dogs and cats housed in shelters across the country, promoting responsible pet
adoption remains a top priority. We encourage all Canadians to consider
providing a loving home to an animal in need and there's no better time to do
so than during Iams Friends for Life Week. What's more, the funds raised
during Iams Friends for Life Week will go a long way towards helping us
increase the resources within our shelter network that educate new owners
about responsible pet ownership."
During Iams Friends for Life Week, participating humane societies and
SPCAs across the country are encouraged to open their doors to the public and
host adopt-a-thons, open houses or other special events in their local
communities to prepare potential pet owners for their new responsibilities.
"Our partnership with the CFHS is a natural extension of Iams'
long-standing commitment to promoting the health and well-being of dogs and
cats," said Katherine Tremble-Taylor, P&G Pet Health and Nutrition, Pet
Business Manager. "We're thrilled to have more than 25 shelters across the
country participate in this year's campaign and we hope that Canadians will
pay a visit to their local humane society or SPCA during Iams Friends for Life
Week and take home a 'friend for life'."

About the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies

The CFHS was formed in 1957 as the first and only national voice of
humane societies/SPCAs across Canada and remains so to this day. The CFHS
supports its member animal welfare organizations across Canada in promoting
respect and humane treatment toward all animals through public education,
national animal welfare initiatives and the enactment of legislation to reduce
animal cruelty. No other national animal welfare organization works with and
legitimately represents local and provincial humane societies and SPCAs in
Canada nor enjoys an aggregate membership base in excess of 400,000 caring,
voting Canadians.
