Ontario Liberals Working Hard To Keep Ontario Moving Forward

McGuinty Offers A Positive, Forward-Looking Government

PICKERING, ON, Oct. 9 /CNW/ - The October 10th election is about
rejecting the politics of division and moving forward, together, as Ontarians,
says Premier Dalton McGuinty.
"Over the past four weeks, we've been talking about bringing Ontarians
together to continue working, building and dreaming together - that's the
Ontario way of building a stronger province," said McGuinty.
"Our Ontario Liberal plan reflects that - it's a plan to strengthen
publicly funded schools, and publicly funded medicare to keep moving Ontario
forward, together," McGuinty said.
The Ontario Liberals' plan will deliver approximately 430 new books every
year for elementary school libraries and homework help for students. It will
build on our success in reducing class sizes in the early grades by expanding
our efforts to grades 4-8.
It will continue our all-out effort to raise graduation rates, encourage
our young people to finish high school, and go on to university or college or
an apprenticeship program.
McGuinty thanked Ontarians for the progress the province has made.
"We've come a long way together, in four short years," he said.
"In our publicly funded schools, we have more resources, higher reading,
writing and math scores, and improving graduation rates. Half a million more
Ontarians have a family doctor, and we're hiring nurses, building new
hospitals, and reducing wait times for several important procedures," McGuinty
"Our economy is growing and we have almost 400,000 more jobs than we had
four years ago. The $5.6 billion deficit we inherited from the Conservatives
has been eliminated, and the budget is now balanced," he said.
"And Ontario is greener. We've permanently protected from development a
greenbelt spanning more than one million acres across the Golden Horseshoe.
Ontario has a tough new Clean Water Act and new protections for endangered
species, and a plan is in place to green our economy," McGuinty said.
"We need to keep working, and building and dreaming together, for a
province in which every Ontarian has the opportunity to succeed."
