Rick Johnson A Staunch Defender Of Publicly Funded Education And A
Valuable New Member Of The Ontario Liberal Team
LINDSAY, ON, Sept. 11 /CNW/ - Premier McGuinty visited Lindsay today to
throw his enthusiastic support behind new Liberal candidate Rick Johnson, who
has stepped down from his position as President of the Ontario Public School
Boards Association to join the Ontario Liberals in their fight to defend
publicly funded education.
"In four short years we've turned a corner in our public schools - by
working together - as teachers, parents, students, school boards and leaders
like Rick," said Premier McGuinty.
"Rick is one of Ontario's leading defenders of publicly funded education
and has spent his career standing up for publicly funded education. And when
someone like Rick decides to stand with us, it means we're moving in the right
direction," said McGuinty.
Rick Johnson has served his community as a public school trustee for
Trillium Lakelands District School Board since 1997. In 2004, he was elected
to serve as President of the Ontario Public School Boards Association; a
position he left in order to run in the provincial election.
"I care too much about publicly funded education to stand by while the
Conservatives divert half a billion out of the system and into private
religious schools. That undermines students in Lindsay and across Ontario,"
In the past four years, the Ontario Liberals' plan for publicly funded
education has meant real positive change for Ontario's students. Class sizes
are down in the early years, test scores are up and peace and stability have
been returned to our schools.
