Ontario Cattle, Hog and Horticulture producers to receive $130 million in assistance

Producers to start receiving cheques this week

GUELPH, ON, March 4 /CNW/ - Approximately 13,000 cattle, hog and
horticulture producers across Ontario will receive nearly $130 million in
assistance within the next week under the recently-announced Ontario Cattle,
Hog and Horticulture Payment (OCHHP). The assistance program is administered
by Agricorp, an agency of the Government of Ontario.
The payment was announced last December by Minister of Agriculture, Food
and Rural Affairs Leona Dombrowsky, to help producers manage the effects of
lower returns due to higher input costs, the stronger Canadian dollar and
lower market prices.
The mailing of cheques started February 29, 2008. Cheques are expected to
begin arriving in producers' mailboxes this week.

Agricorp partners with government and industry to deliver programs that
help the Ontario agri-food sector manage risks. Producers who have questions
about OCHHP may contact Agricorp at 1-877-838-5144, Monday to Friday, from
7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
