OHCA applauds government investment to support 'Aging at Home'

TORONTO, Aug. 28 /CNW/ - The Board of the Ontario Home Care Association
(OHCA) applauds the Ontario government for its commitment to supporting
Ontarians to age at home through today's three year funding announcement by
Health Minister Smitherman.
OHCA believes that an effective aging at home strategy will ensure that
quality of life for aging Ontarians will be maintained by maximizing ongoing
independence, delaying chronic disease, achieving social connectedness and
dignity for the older person. "Home care is one of the key facets of a
successful aging at home strategy," said Sue VanderBent, Executive Director
OHCA. "We believe that through proactive efforts by health and social care
providers and improved collaboration not only within these sectors but with
the broader community network, the understanding of the requirements for a
successful "aging at home" strategy can be developed."
The OHCA will work closely with the Ministry of Health, the 14 LHINs and
health system partners to support the planning and implementation of this new
comprehensive strategy that responds to the needs of our society over the next
few years.
