Oh Canada! Russell Peters performs for the troops!

TORONTO, Aug. 13 /CNW/ - Russell Peters lifted the spirits of the
Canadian troops aboard the HMCS WINNIPEG last night in Pearl Harbour, Hawaii.
Over two hundred Navy personnel were kept in stitches for his one hour
performance on the frigate's flight deck. "They were great!" says Peters of
his appreciative audience. "We've been trying to do something for the HMCS
Winnipeg for a while now. We talked about doing this show in Singapore,
Brisbane, even Tonga, but finally got together here in Hawaii."
Despite a tropical downpour during the show, spirits were high and the
men and women of the HMCS Winnipeg took a welcome break from their eight month
tour of duty, during which they fought pirates off the coast of Somalia and
provided humanitarian aid in the region. The frigate heads back home to Canada
after her stop in Hawaii.
"Totally different from the American experiences that I've had. Our guys
were like, hey come on in. Want a beer?" Peters adds. "Just really good people
serving our country."
In 2007 Peters performed for the USO on the USS Eisenhower and in Iraq,
Afghanistan, Djibouti and Greenland and was part of a special Thanksgiving
Tour for the troops with the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff,
General Cartwright.
The in-demand comic is currently in the middle of his 20th Anniversary
Tour, with over 130,000 tickets sold between the summer and fall tour dates.
The second part of his tour begins this fall where he'll perform in eight
additional cities across Canada (full list of tour dates available at
www.russellpeters.com) including his hometown Brampton where proceeds raised
will be donated to the William Osler Health Centre Foundation.
