TORONTO, May 29 /CNW/ - Today the Ontario Energy Board (the Board) issued
a Rate Order to reflect its Decision on 2009 electricity distribution rates
for Westario Power Inc. (Westario). The new rates are effective May 1, 2009.
As a result of this Rate Order, the delivery portion of the bill
associated with the cost to distribute electricity will increase by
approximately 12.5% or $1.36 for Westario's' residential customers using 1,000
kWh per month. In its application Westario had requested a distribution rate
increase of approximately 18.7%. The delivery portion represents about
one-third of the total bill.
Westario requested a revenue requirement of $ 9,811,263 for the 2009 rate
year. As a result of the Board Decision, Westario will recover a revenue
requirement of $8,531,592.
In its Decision, the Board accepted Westario's proposals which included:
- increased operations, maintenance and administration costs due to
inflation, field asset programs and maintenance of overhead and
- A new operations center in Walkerton.
In its Decision, the Board reduced certain requested amounts for
operations, maintenance and administration costs such as:
- $30,000 out of a total requested amount of $270,000 for tree trimming
and line clearing operations;
- $20,000 to reflect a four-year amortization period for one-time
regulatory expenses; and
- $50,000 related to the amalgamation and consolidation of facilities.
