TORONTO, June 28 /CNW/ - The Ontario Energy Board today announced the
appointment of Dr. David Balsillie as a part-time Board Member. Dr. Balsillie
has been appointed by Order in Council of the Government of Ontario for a two-
year term, beginning June 20, 2007.
"David has a long history of public service with the Government of
Ontario as well as a distinguished teaching career with the University of
Toronto. His vast knowledge in environmental matters will greatly complement
the ongoing work of the OEB, especially as environmental considerations play
an increasing role in energy policy and infrastructure development," says
Howard Wetston, Chair.
Dr. Balsillie is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Ontario
Forestry Association, a member of the Forestry Futures Trust Fund Committee
operating under the direction of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources,
and a trustee on the Trees Ontario Foundation. He is also an Adjunct Professor
in the Faculty of Forestry at the University of Toronto. His focus is in
sustainable forest management, land-use planning and resource allocation,
biodiversity conservation and global warming.
Dr. Balsillie has served as an Assistant Deputy Minister with the both
the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ministry of Environment where his
responsibilities included environmental services, forest policy, research,
technology transfer and information management.
The Ontario Energy Board regulates the province's electricity and natural
gas sectors in the public interest. It envisions a viable and efficient energy
